Ram Nath Kovind OdishaBhubaneswar: While NDA nominee Ram Nath Kovind was elected the 14th President of India, defeating UPA nominee Meira Kumar, details of voting in Odisha Assembly have been out too.

Out of 147 MLAs in Odisha Assembly, 127 (mostly BJD and BJP) voted for Ram Nath Kovind, while 17 MLAs voted for Meira Kumar. Interestingly, Congress has 16 MLAs in the Assembly and one of them (Subal Sahu) did not vote due to illness. So, it’s clear that Meira Kumar received a few votes from other parties.

Two votes were found invalid during the voting process. The BJD had extended its support to Ram Nath Kovind. Meanwhile, CM Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Kovind on his victory and tweeted, “Congratulate Shri Ramnath Kovind ji on being elected President of India. We look forward to work under his leadership at @RashtrapatiBhvn”.
