ABVPBhubaneswar: The students’ wing of the RSS, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), took a dig at the hands down victory claim of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) in the recently concluded college polls in Odisha and asserted that around 90% of its candidates emerged victorious and made a clean sweep in 21 colleges. ABVP also claimed that students’ union polls were cancelled in several colleges of the state purposefully by the ruling party for fear of defeat.

Addressing media persons at a press conference in the city on Saturday, ABVP’s state general secretary Abhilash Panda severely criticised the BCJD’s claim of 95% of its candidates winning in the students’ union poll and said ABVP does not measure the poll success with percentage, rather it believes in able leadership.

Abhilash dubbed the ABVP candidates’ recent success as the true reflection of growing discontentment among the student’s fraternity in the state. The deteriorating standard of higher education in the state, attack on student’s rights, and looting of scholarships by unscrupulous officials are the main reasons behind the ABVP’s success, he added.

Accusing the ruling BJD of misusing the administrative machinery during the college polls, the ABVP cited examples like “note for vote” in RD Women’s College, local BJD MLA’s Gop College visit during ‘What I stand for’ meeting, BJD rally in Jagatsinghpur College, and BJD student leader’s involvement in violence in Kendrapara Autonomous College. ABVP leaders present at the press conference, however, claimed that their candidates remained unperturbed by the disturbances and came out with flying colours in a majority of colleges where elections were held.

Congratulating the winning candidates the ABVP also released a list of colleges where its candidates were elected to various posts, during the press conference.
