NGT grants conditional nod for ‘Bali Jatra’

Cuttack Bali Jatra-2017 to begin from November 4Bhubaneswar: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday granted conditional permission to the Cuttack district administration to conduct the famous ‘Bali Jatra’ this year.

In its verdict over the annual festival which was pronounced, the Kolkata based Eastern Zonal Bench of NGT asked the district administration to organise the Jatra in same place as 2016 and make plastic and litter free. Besides, it asked to dispose all the wastage on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh informed that 1400 stalls would be put on the Mahanadi embankment for the grand festival.

“As many as 1400 stalls will be put this year .Plots for the stalls will be put on auction between October 20 and October 30 near Gadgadia Temple. We have decided to deploy as many 35 platoons of police for security purpose,” Singh said while speaking to the reporters after a preparatory meeting.

“Three watch towers and special rest houses for senior citizens will also be set up on the venue,” the DCP added.

Bali Jatra is slated to begin on November 4 this year and will continue till November 11.
