Newborn rescued from drain in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Cases of people dumping their newborns are larging loom in the state with another newborn boy found dumped in a drain at New Colony near Sainik School here on Saturday. The infant is now undergoing treatment in ICU at Apollo Hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.

According to sources, a man, while passing through the area, heard the cry of the baby and rushed to the spot and found it in a bag, wrapped up in a cloth. He then informed some locals and then called the Commissionerate Police, following which a PCR van came and admitted the child to the nearby Apollo Hospital.

Later, members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), on being informed, rushed to the hospital and took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to establish the identity of the baby.
