New Year gift: Odisha house surgeons’ stipend hiked to Rs 20k

Bhubaneswar: In what could be considered as New Year gift, Odisha government on Monday hiked the stipend of house surgeons of major medical colleges and hospitals in the state. This was informed by Health Minister Pratap Jena.

The Health Minister said that the stipend of the surgeons at the state-run medical colleges and hospitals such as SCB Medical College & Hospital, MKCG Medical College & Hospital and VIMSAR Medical College & Hospital has been increased to Rs 20,000 from from the existing Rs 15,000. The hike will be effective from April 1, 2017.

The surgeons were demanding Rs 20,000 of stipend from last few years.
