Tathagata Satpathy on Modi GovtBhubaneswar: BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy has once again stirred a social media debate on Saturday by questioning both the Central and State Governments’ commitment towards the development of farmers in Odisha on his twitter handle.

Taking up the poverty issue and citing a cause for the same, the senior leader took to twitter and claimed that as the bulk population of Odisha is from an agricultural background, their development should be the first priority of the administration. However, neither the State nor the Centre is committed to the progress of farmers, said the Dhenkanal MP.

In another tweet, a few minutes later Tathagata was of the opinion that it is only the money through which the farmers of the state can earn respect.

Coming out with a solution to the plights of farmers Tathagata wrote, if farmers want medicare, education, and entertainment facilities near their home then they should strengthen their financial capacity.

Reacting to Tathagata’s tweets, state Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout took a pot shot at him and said Tathagata should have talked to him at least once before giving such remarks and putting party in an embarrassing situation. While in the capacity of an MP Tathagata had never raised a question in Parliament over the Central Government’s apathy towards agriculture in Odisha then what is the point in raising such issues on twitter, asked Dama.

The Minister claimed that the Odisha Government is committed to the agriculture sector and several policies have been formed for the benefit of the farmers in  recent times.
