Nation pays rich tribute to Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar on 127th birth anniversary

New Delhi: The people of India paid rich tribute to Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar on his 127th birth anniversary today.

On this occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind paid floral tributes to Dr B.R. Ambedkar here at Parliament House Lawns this morning.

In a message, Kovind said, Dr Ambedkar was a multifaceted personality whose impact on the society and nation has remained relevant and will remain relevant. He said, Dr Ambedkar was an academic and economist, a scholar and moral philosopher, an exceptional legal mind and constitutionalist and above all, he was an activist for social reform and for legitimate opportunities for women and a champion of liberty.

Earlier, on the eve of Babasaheb’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Dr Ambedkar National Memorial to the nation. Speaking at the function here, Modi said, the memorial is a tribute to Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He said, his government is following the path shown by Baba Saheb and moving ahead with the mantra of Sabka Saath – Sabka Vikas to ensure that the benefits of development reach all section of society.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also paid tribute to the chief architect of Indian Constititution on his birthday. “We are guided by his life-long strive for upliftment of the marginalized & creation of a just and equitable society,” Patnaik tweeted.

Political leaders from different parties and people from different walks of life also paid floral tributes at the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in the state capital and various places in Odisha.

A series of functions have been organised across the state to highlight the contribution of Dr B R Ambedkar to the nation, particularly in making of the Constitution of India.

On 14th April 1891, Dr B R Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution of India, was born at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, which is now known as Dr Ambedkar Nagar. He was also the first Law Minister of India.

Dr B R Ambedkar was a multifaceted personality who waged a life-long struggle for a modern India free of caste and other prejudices, ensuring equal rights to women and for the disadvantaged across the country.
