Niali: With no sign of respite from sheep deaths seen in Niali block in Cuttack district, the mysterious animal killed three more sheep in Gayasahi village last night.

The sheep deaths were reported from one Parikshit Das’s cattle shed late in the night. The modus operandi of the predator remained the same with stomachs of the sheep teared and liver gouged out. Pugmarks and deep nail indentations of the wild animal were also found near the cattle shed.

“We heard screaming of cows at around 2 AM last night and came out of the house. Later we spotted at least four canine-like creatures attacking the sheep in the cattle shed. However, the animals fled from the taking advantage of the dark, before we could catch them”, said Rabindra Das, a relative of cattle shed owner.

Similarly, claiming that the mysterious animal attack took place for the first time in the village, locals have demanded compensation to the affected villager.

Notably, at least 40 sheep have been killed in Niali so far, after mysterious animal attack again surfaced in the area in November this year.

No officials from the district administration had reached the village till this report was being filed.
