Modi, Hasina inaugurate Bandhan Express Rail service

PM ModiNew Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated the Bandhan Express train service between Kolkata and Khulna (Bangladesh) through video conferencing this morning.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also joined the inauguration ceremony from Kolkata.

Bandhan Express has joined the Kolkata-Dhaka Moitree Express to become the second cross -border train plying between the two countries.

The distance between Kolkata and Khulna is nearly 172 kms which will be covered in over four hours. Apart from Kolkata and Khulna, there will be two stops – Petrapole (on the India side) and Benapole (in Bangladesh).

While the train had an inaugural run today, the commercial service will begin November 16.

The two Prime Ministers also inaugurated the International Passenger Terminal at Kolkata which will offer end to end simplified immigration and customs clearance services for passengers of both Moitree and Bandhan Express.
