Phulbani: Unidentified miscreants tried to break open an ATM but failed to steal cash from it at DRDA Square in Phulbani town in Kandhamal district last night.
The incident came to for after some customers reached the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM this morning and found it damaged. They immediately took the matter to the notice of the bank authorities who called up Phulbani Town Police.
During a joint inspection by the bank officials and police at the ATM unit, the front portion of the machine was found damaged. It seemed as if the burglars had tried to dig out the cash dispensing slot of the machine in an attempt to steal cash from it. However, the cash rolls were found intact inside the ATM.
Police have collected the CCTV footage available at the unit and started investigation into the incident.
