Miscreants loot Rs 8 lakh in cash, gold jewellery in Gajapati

Paralakhemundi: Throwing an open challenge to police, some unidentified miscreants have looted cash and gold jewellery worth lakhs after breaking into the house of a resident in Rajadanda Sahi area under Paralakhemundi police limits in Gajapati district last night.

The victim identified as V.V. Ravana Murty was on a visit to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh along with his family for a health check-up when the burglary took place. A group of burglars entered his house late in the night by breaking open the locks of the main gate and decamped with cash worth Rs 8 lakh and gold jewellery weighing around 6 tola (70 gram).

The loot came to light in the morning after a milkman reached Murty’s house to deliver milk and found its gate and doors open. He called up and informed police on the incident.

While a team of Paralakhemundi Police led by IIC Babuli Nayak has conducted preliminary investigation reaching the spot, it is waiting for the scientific team and dog squad which are being sent from Chhatrapur, for further investigation.
