Miscreants loot Rs 12 lakh from ATM in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: Unidentified miscreants looted around Rs 12 lakh by breaking an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Mulisingh village under Tirtol Police Station area in the district last night.

The incident came to light after some customers visited the looted ATM which belongs to Indian Overseas Bank and set up in Sitarani Bhawan in Saharahat area, this morning. Finding the machine vandalised they immediately called up the bank authorities and informed about the matter.

“I came to know about the loot at around 6 AM in the morning today after a customer rang up me. After reaching the spot and conducting an inquiry I found the ATM’s cash panel cut with the help of a gas cutter which could only be carried out by professionals. A case has been lodged with police in connection with the incident,” informed Harischandra Nayak, Branch Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Mulasingh Branch.

“We have loaded Rs 17 lakh in the looted ATM at around 12 noon yesterday. However, cash to the tune of Rs 5 lakh had been withdrawn by customers till the same evening. Miscreants have managed to decamp with Rs 12 lakh,” he added.
