Berhampur: Some unidentified miscreants killed a youth by slitting his throat brutally in Lanjipalli village under Shergarh police limits in Ganjam district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Jitu Patra of the same village.
The victim was standing near a puja mandap located in the village late in the night when at least two men approached him on a bike and stabbed on his stomach with a sharp knife. After he fell down on the ground the assailants slit his throat mercilessly and fled away in a hurry.
Jitu, who bled profusely on the spot and turned critical, was rushed to Shergarh CHC by some onlookers where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police reached the hospital and sent the body for autopsy later in the night.
While an investigation is underway to nab the absconding accused, police suspect past enmity behind the incident.
