Jagatsinghpur: A body of a 9-year-old girl was found at a cashew forest near Gadaharishpur village under Ersama police limits in Jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday.
Some locals identified the body and immediately informed the police today morning.
The police reached the spot along with a scientific team and sent the body for autopsy test.
A case has been registered at the Ersama police station in this connection. A manhunt has been launched to nab the miscreants involved in the crime, Police said.
Though the exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, police suspect it as a rape and murder case.
Sources said, the victim had gone to attend nature’s call to the forest late last night and didn’t return home. Her family members tried to search her but couldn’t trace her whereabouts.
Protesting the incident, a group of villagers staged demonstration by burning tyres on the road connecting to the village to press their demand to nab the miscreants at the earliest.
