Balasore: Taking prompt action in catching the accused in the rape of a minor girl that took place in Bageipur village under Khaira police limits in the district on Thursday, police arrested a youth the same day.
The accused, identified as Jaga Jena of the same village was arrested today by a team of police officials led by Khaira Police Station IIC Lopamudra Nayak. He was forwarded to court after conduction of his medical examination at the Khaira CHC.
Informing on the development, Nayak said the medical examination of the minor could not have been done last night and it would be completed today. The accused has been forwarded to court, she added.
The minor victim, daughter of one Maheshwar Singh of Bageipur village was captured by the accused on her way back to home after collecting firewood from a nearby forest last afternoon. The accused after dragging the minor into the forest outraged her modesty and then freed her threatening her not to disclose the matter to anybody.
Victim’s mother lodged a complaint at the Khaira Police Station last night after she came to know about the incident from some locals who had spotted the accused dragging the victim into the forest.
