Minor ‘Divyang’ Girl attacked in Odisha, hospitalized

Berhampur: A 16-year-old visually impaired girl has been attacked on her neck by an unknown person/s in Puhundi village under Jarada police limits of Ganjam district in the wee hours today. She has been admitted to the MKCG hospital here this morning in a critical condition.

The injured minor girl has been identified as Tapoi Nayak. She studies in class VII at a local blind school.

According to reports, Tapoi’s mother, who was sleeping in another room, found her in a pool of blood as her throat was slit with a sharp weapon at around 4.00 AM today. She was rushed to Patrapur hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here as her condition deteriorated.

Jarada Police has begun investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Ganjam SP Ashish Kumar Singh also reached the hospital to look into the matter.

“We will investigate the case from all angles. As of now our prime focus is to avail her treatment. Then after we will record her statement and expedite our investigation,” said a police official.
