Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram on Monday levelled strong allegations against Opposition’s Presidential Candidate Meira Kumar saying she is not a ‘Dalit.’
“Meira Kumar is not a Dalit. Her husband Suresh Kumar is a Brahmin. Can she prove that she is a Dalit?, asked the Union Minister while speaking to reporters.
Meira Kumar is the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) nominee for the Presidential polls and will compete against BJP-led NDA’s candidate Ram Nath Kovind, who is a Dalit.
Meira Kumar, the five-time Member of Parliament from Bihar, was elected unopposed as the first woman speaker of Lok Sabha and served from 2009 to 2014.
