Phulbani: As Dashrath Manjhi, on whom the Bollywood biopic ‘Manjhi – The Mountain Man’ was made, carved a road through a rocky mountain near his village Gehlaur after his wife Phaguniya Devi fell while trying to cross the mountain, so did Jalandhar Nayak of Odisha who started carving a path through a mountain only to help his children to reach their school safely .

Jalandhar Nayak of Gumisahi village under Tudipaju Grama Panchayat in Kandhamal district has reportedly made an 8 km way through a mountain to avoid the inconveniences faced by his children while passing through the narrow stony route.

“My children find it difficult to walk on the narrow and stony path while going to their school. Often I saw them stumbling against the stones and I decided to carve a road through the mountain so that they can walk freely,” said Nayak while speaking exclusively to Kalinga TV on his motive behind such exemplary action.

The tribal man who is the only dweller in the village, began the task few months ago using a hammer, digging bar and chisel and now has completed 8 kilometres out of 15 kilometres. He alleged that neither people nor the government helped him in his task saying they do not want to help as only his family lives in the village.
