Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police resorted to a mild lathi-charge on the agitating teachers in front of Capital High School, an evaluation centre for Matric exam answer sheet, here on Tuesday.

According to reports, the agitating teachers prevented other teachers, engaged by the state government for evaluation of Matric answer copies from entering the evaluation centre. However, they had a scuffle with the police after the latter forcibly evicted them. Later, police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the teachers and detained some of them.

Several teachers, under the aegis of Odisha School College Teachers’ and Employees’ United Forum, continued their demonstration to press for fulfilment of their demands.

Many teachers were also seen protesting in front of other evaluation centres across the state including Balangir and Rourkela.

Notably, the teacher’s forum had earlier announced to boycott the evaluation process, which began from today and stage demonstration in front of 57 centres across the state in a bid to press for fulfillment of their demands. They are protesting the alleged inordinate delay on the part of the state government in publishing a notification on withdrawal of compulsory affidavit clause to avail grant-in-aid (GIA).
