Malkangiri: Sending shivers down the spines of residents in Malkangiri district, a group of heavily armed Maoists killed a passenger suspecting him as police informer and torched at least two buses and three trucks on NH-30 in Dornapal village in neighbouring Chhattisgarh last night.

The deceased has not been identified so far.

The members of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group struck late in the night on the NH while two buses were on their way to Hyderabad carrying passengers. While one bus was traveling from Jagdalpur. the other had started its journey from Malkangiri for the first time after its flagging off on Monday.

After intercepting the buses at gun point and forcibly alighting the commuters the red rebels gunned down a person boarding one of the buses. Later on they went on vandalizing and torching the buses. The Maoists even did not spare at least three trucks which were passing through the route and set those on fire after intercepting. They fled from the spot following the attack.

While security forces have intensified combing in and around the area following the incident. They are suspecting that the Maoists could have carried out the attack to avenge the police encounter in which at least 10 Maoists including six women were gunned down in Pujari Kankar forest in Chhattisgarh on Holi.
