Bargarh: In yet another barbaric act led by red-rebels, Maoists killed a small-time vendor after branding him as ‘police informer’ in Salepali village under Paikamal police limits in the district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Sahu, a betel shop owner and a resident of Salepali village.

A group of heavily armed members of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group reached the village at around 8.45 PM in the night and abducted Sahu from his shop threatening at gun point. They also resorted to three rounds of blank firing in the village. Later taking Sahu with them to a nearby forest, Maoists killed him by shooting on the chest.

Before leaving the spot, the cadres left at least two posters near the body of Sahu branding him as ‘police informer’. They claimed that Sahu had informed police on the movement of two of their comrades in the village in September last year, for which he was punished. They warned the villagers of similar consequences in case they opt to be a police informer.

However, phone calls to Padampur SDPO Laxmi Narayan Panda on the issue went unanswered.
