Puri: Noted sand artist Manas Sahoo created a sand sculpture on the eve of the International Day of Yoga (or commonly referred to as Yoga Day) at Puri sea beach here on Wednesday.

“Yoga is the tradition and culture of our country. We have created a unique identity in the world due to Yoga. Therefore, we have given place to most of the important monuments of different countries in the sand art as all of them are united with us because of Yoga,” said Sahoo while speaking to Kalinga TV.

“As Yoga helps a person to manage stress and remain healthy and has devastating effects on the body and mind, we have created this sand sculpture to create awareness among the people to do yoga,” he added.

Sahoo and his students toiled hard around seven hours to erect the 25-feet-height sand sculpture where they have used 20 tonnes of sand.

The International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015. Later, an international day for Yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
