Balasore: Balasore Industrial Area Police on Thursday arrested one Ananta Panda for robbing women of cash and ornaments on the pretext of giving them lift.
Police also seized Rs 4 Lakh in cash, 200 grams of gold, a bike and 6 mobiles phones from Panda’s possession.
The matter came to light only when a victim woman lodged a police complaint against the accused.
The woman had alleged that Panda managed to win her trust and made her to sit on his bike while she was returning home from hospital some months back. The accused identified himself as the friend of the woman’s son and assured her to drop her at her home. But he took the woman to a lonely place and her of Rs 2000, some gold ornaments and a cell-phone.
Acting on the allegations of the woman, Industrial Area Police had launched a man haunt and arrested Panda today.
Police said that the accused will be forwarded to the court this afternoon.
