Jagatsinghpur: In a gruesome act crossing all limits of inhumanity, a man threw acid on his mother-in-law and 14-month-old daughter injuring them grievously over a family feud in Bhaliapatna village under Tirtol police limits in the district on Friday.
The injured have been identified as Santilata Samal, wife of Banamali Samal.
The mishap took place in the evening after the accused, one Manas Kumar of Badaolanga village of Puri district, who was staying at his in-law’s house indulged in a verbal duel with mother-in-law Santilata. After the heated argument escalated further, Kumar took out a bottle and poured acid on the victim in a fit of rage. While Santilata sustained critical injury, her granddaughter was also hurt in the attack.
Both the victims were rushed to Manijanga CHC in critical condition and were later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack.
Informing on the attack the wife of the accused Deepa Samal said her husband was not happy with her stay in the paternal home and carried out the attack in anger.
Meanwhile, Tirtol Police have reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
