Man stabbed to death over cracking jokes

Jagatsinghpur: Cracking jokes proved costly for a man in Murunia village in Rahana panchayat under Balikuda police limits after he was brutally stabbed to death by a neighbour, last night.

The deceased has been identified as Bibek Rout, son of Brundaban Rout of Murunia village.

The incident took place late in the night while the victim along with one Gajendra Khatua and Babu Khatua, who live next door in the village was returning home after watching a melody programme. While the trio bantered with each other, Babu who was in an inebriated state took Bibek’s words seriously and attacked the latter with a knife.

A critically injured Bibek was first rushed to Balikuda CHC and then shifted to Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where the doctors declared him brought dead.

“I got a call on the attack from uncle’s family at around 11 PM. Then received another all informing about his death at around 12.30 AM. The accused had no past enmity with my uncle, he attacked him in a fit of rage under the influence of alcohol. We demand immediate arrest of the accused,” said Naresh Pradhan, nephew of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Balikuda Police have lodged a case in the incident and have launched a man hunt to nab the accused who is absconding following the attack.
