Man publicly shamed, held for selling liquor ‘door to door’

Angul: Tension ran high in Himitira village under Kishorenagar police limits in the district on Wednesday after a group of women detained and publicly shamed a man who was selling liquor on a door to door basis. The accused was later handed over to police.

The liquor seller has been identified as Abhiram Sahoo of Kishorenagar area.

The incident took place in the evening while Abhiram was busy in delivering liquor orders to customers in the village by a vehicle. After it came to the notice of a woman anti-liquor brigade active in the village, they intercepted the vehicle. A heated exchange of words took place and continued between the two sides over the issue. The angry women roughed up Abhiram and detained him for several hours.

However, the accused was freed after Kishorenagar Police reached the village and tried to pacify the women.

Cops also seized at least 100 bottles of foreign liquor from the possession of the accused.

Abhiram was taken into custody based on a police complaint filed by the women later in the night.
