Man kills daughter, her 3 children to get son-in-law’s ex-gratia in Odisha

Paradip: In a major breakthrough, Kujang police in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday arrested a man for killing his own daughter and her three children whose bodies were recovered from Mahanadi river on May 10.

The arrested killer has been identified as Akshaya Sethi.

According to sources at police, Akshaya killed her daughter Mamina Sethi, her daughters – Barsha and Disha and son Munna to possess the Rs 2 lakh compensation amount which was released by a firm after the death of Mamina’s husband Anant, who had died in a road accident on April 3.

Akshaya had dumped the bodies in the Mahanadi river after killing all of them by strangulating them. Initially, he strangulated his two granddaughters Barsha and Disha to death and threw their bodies into the river. Later, he killed his daughter Mamina and grandson Munna and threw their bodies into the river as well, added the sources.

After noticing the bodies floating with face downwards in Mahanadi River near Shani Mandir of Jagnnathpur village, some locals had informed the Kujang police. The cops with the help of Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) had recovered the bodies from the river.

The Kujang police, which was probing the mysterious death of the four persons of the same family had earlier detained and questioned Akshaya and his son Kalia.
