Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today arrested a man named Jayant Panda, owner of Bikash institute located in Sameigadia in Mancheswar area, on charges of raping a mentally challenged woman.
Acting on the complaint lodged by the brother of the rape survivor, Mancheswar police arrested Panda.
As per the allegation, the victim’s brother had lodged her in the rehabilitation centre in 2014. But, since then the accused had been raping her. However, she managed to escape from the clutches of Panda recently and narrated her ordeal before her brother, following which he lodged FIR against Jayant.
“The complainant has alleged that she has been repeatedly sexually assaulted by the owner of Bikaash Institute, Jayant Panda where she was staying under his care. The accused has been arrested and further investigation into the matter is on,” informed DCP Anup Sahoo.
