Jajpur: Nagada, the hill top village in the district that shot into the limelight last summer after a series of malnutrition induced deaths of children, finally had a bus service on Friday.

The City Ride bus will run between Chandikhole and Nagada via Kuakhia, Jaraka, Panikoili, Sukinda and Kalinganagar industrial area.

Talking to Kalinga TV, Ghadai said, “The people of Nagada village can easily commute to other parts like Jajpur, Chandikhol and Bhubaneswar now. The bus service will help the villagers to sell their agricultural products and handicrafts in the urban market in the district and outside and thus give them an oopportunity to enhance their income.”

“With the bus service, the people f the Juang tribe will get more opportunities to come across different people in the mainstream, which will also bring about a behavioural change in their lifestyle,” he added.

Nagada village hit national headlines last summer after 19 children of Juang community died in the village due to malnutrition in a period of three months. In the complete absence of road communication, no doctors ever visited the village nor did any medicines reach the patients.

Since then, the state government, however, has taken various steps to develop infrastructure in and around Nagada village aiming to improve the living conditions of the local residents.
