Puri: In a big respite for devotees and tourists visiting Puri Srijagannath Temple, they would get their much loved ‘Mahaprasad’ again from today. The ‘Mahaprasad’ remained unavailable for last four days due to a prevailing logjam between servitors and administration over a dispute.
Assuring the availability of the ‘holy food’ to the devotees before media, Secretary of Suar Mahasuar Nijog, Krushna Chandra Samantray said it would be released today as the Orissa High Court has taken up the issue with a positive note.
“We are happy with the observation of the Orissa High Court and Nijog would fully cooperate in the temple rituals. The ‘Mahaprasad’ would be released from the temple as per the schedule followed prior to April 16 logjam. We have joined as a party to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the court requesting its order to fix the ‘Mahaprasad’ release time in the temple at 12 noon sharp, for which the hearing would be held on April 24,” said Samantray following an meeting of the Nijog yesterday which was attended by around 50 servitors.
The decision of the Nijog came after the Orissa High Court expressed its displeasure over the delay in rituals in Srimandir as well as the unavailability of ‘Mahaprasad’ yesterday. Several rituals of the deities like ‘Sakala Dhoopa’, ‘Jatarangi Mahasnana’ and ‘Madhyana Dhoopa’ was done on time by the servitors the same day.
A dispute occurred between the Suar Mahasuar Nijog and temple administration on April 16 after ‘Mahaprasad’ worth around Rs 50 lakh could not be offered to the deities due to a delay in ‘Jagamohan’ opening as well as unavailability of ‘Palia’ servitor. The unoffered food was later buried at the ‘Koili Baikuntha’ and the Nijog staged a sit-in demanding compensation for the loss incurred by the wastage.
