Love Triangle: 4 arrested in auto driver murder case in Odisha

Kendrapara: Pattamundai police on Wednesday arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of an auto driver.

The arrested persons have persons have been identified as Harekrushna Sahu (20), Rabindra Behera (20), Kanhu Sahu (30) and Nikunja Barik (31) of Damarpur village. Police also seized a blade and a motorbike from the possessions of the accused which they used for the crime.

Pattamundai police station IIC Pramod Kumar Mallick said that police while investigating into the murder of one Rashmikant Das, an auto driver who was found dead on the roadside of Damarpur-Balabhadrapur embankment road on last Monday, arrested the accused persons.

However, the prime accused identified as Satyajit Tripathy and his younger brother Biswaprakash Tripathy are still at large, he added.

During interrogation, police established that the reason behind the murder was a triangular love story.

According to Mallick, Rashmikant was in love with a girl of Balabhadrapur for the last four years. However, the girl, who was working as data entry operator at the Damarapur-based HP Gas agency, developed love relationship with Satyajit Tripathy, owner of the Gas agency.

There were verbal altercations between Rashmikant and Satyajit after the girl broke up with the former following which Satyajit with the help of his younger brother and some fellow villagers hatched plan to eliminate Rashmikant.

On Sunday night, Satyajit as per the plan invited Rashmikant to come to Damarapur-Balabhadrapur embankment road for taking drinks. Rashmikant reached the spot, consumed liquor and later an altercation erupted between them. The other youths, who were present and taking liquor with Satyajit, killed Rashmikant as per their plan by silting his throat with a blade.

Ramakant Das, the father of the deceased auto driver had lodged an FIR on Monday in this regard at Pattamundai police station. Acting on the FIR, Pattamundai police registered a case bearing case no 65/2018 under Section 302, 34 of IPC.

All the arrested persons were produced before the local court which sent them to jail after rejecting their bail petitions.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to nab the two prime accused in this case.
