Lorry truck mows down bike in Jagatsinghpur, 2 killed

Jagatsinghpur: At least two youths were killed after a bike they were traveling by was mowed down by a lorry truck in Rahama under Tirtol police limits on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Akash Pradhan of Dandami village and Gyana Ranjan Samal of Manitree village of the same district.

The mishap took place early in the morning while the victim duo was on their way to a neighbouring village in some work. Near the Rahama Petrol Pump located beside Cuttack-Paradip Road the TVS Apache bike (Registration No. OD 21 C 3130) which they were traveling by was struck by a 10-wheel lorry truck (OR 21 B 2555) head-on after the driver lost control over the wheels. The victims were crushed by the heavy vehicle and died on the spot following the crash, as their bike got caught under its wheels and was dragged to a few feet.

The truck driver managed to flee from the spot following the accident.

Tirtol Police reached the spot and rushed the bodies for postmortem after releasing them from the truck’s wheels. An investigation is underway in the incident.
