Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre has issued thunderstorm and lightning alerts for 19 districts in the state today afternoon.
As per the bulletin, lightning bolt and thunderstorm are most likely to occur in the districts such as Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur. The alert would remain effective till 5.45 PM today.
People have been advised not to venture out of their homes and move to safer places to avoid any eventuality during this period.
The IMD bulletin also predicted heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in North and Coastal Odisha over the next 24 hours.
