Phulbani: Normal life was completely disrupted in G. Udaygiri town in Kandhamal district today during the observance of a 12-hour bandh called by Kuidina Manch, a tribal body which demanded fulfillment of a 14-point charter of demand.

The dawn-to-dusk bandh to which the G.Udaygiri Bar Association and Milita Nagarika Manch extended their support later, brought traffic flow in the town to a grinding halt with both private and government buses remaining off the roads. While shops and other business establishments kept their shutters down, schools and colleges cancelled the classes.

While the bandh has been observed in a peaceful manner so far, strikers were seen staging road blockades at different places in the town by burning tyres, starting from the morning.

Kuidina Manch is demanding arrest of the culprits in a suspected murder case, in which miscreants allegedly mowed down one Deshant Pradhan of Kumbharkumpa village under the wheels of a truck in the area on April 9. The Manch is also demanding a suitable compensation for the deceased’s family along with the shifting of all liquor shops from the village.
