Cuttack: Going ahead with its action in the recent Kurunti police van bomb hurling incident, police managed to nab the second accused involved in the attack following an encounter in Brahmanjharilo area near Kothapatana under Cuttack Sadar police limits in the wee hours on Tuesday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Basir Khan alias Juga.

The raid was conducted after the Cuttack Sadar Police got reliable information on Juga’s whereabouts at around 1 AM last night. A police team led by IIC Sudhansu Bhusan Jena rushed to the cold store field area where the accused had been spotted and found him busy in preparations to hurl bombs on the house of Alokendu Dash, a local Contractor who had lodged a case against him earlier in the Kurunti incident.

Finding the police team nearing him Jaga hurled two back to back bombs at it in a bid to escape. While the cops had a narrow escape in the attack, the IIC immediately opened one round of controlled fire aiming below the waist of Juga in exercise of his right to private defense as well as to immobilise the criminal. The accused was struck with the bullet on his right leg and nabbed immediately by cops in an injured state.

Police also seized three live bombs and one mobile phone from the possession of the held criminal which were kept inside a bag.

Juga has been rushed to SCB Medical in Cuttack after his arrest due to the injury.

Police said apart from the Kurunti bomb hurling case the arrested criminal was also involved in a theft case pending against him at the Mancheswar Police Station area in Bhubaneswar.
