Kunduli suicide: Congress, BJP’s bandh hits normal life in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The state-wide bandh called by the Congress and BJP protesting over Kunduli rape victim’s death has affected normal life across Odisha on Wednesday.

While buses, auto-rickshaw and other vehicles stayed off roads, many trains like Bangalore-Tinsukia Superfast Express, Sambalpur-Puri and Sambalpur-Rayagada Intercity Express trains were halted by the bandh supporters during the dawn to dusk bandh and hartal. Many passengers were stranded at different railway stations and bus stations.

Business and commercial establishments shut down their shutters. Similarly, schools and colleges across the state have also remained closed for the day.

Maoists also extended their support for the bandh.

The protesters demanded CBI probe into the gang-rape case and adequate compensation for the kin of the deceased minor girl who committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Musaguda village in Koraput district on Monday afternoon.

Notably, the ninth class student was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year.
