Kunduli Gangrape Case: 4 persons including Medico depose before Koraput court

Jeypore: In the third phase hearing of the alleged Kunduli gangrape and suicide case, four persons appeared before Koraput District & Sessions Court here on Sunday.

According to reports, Dr. Akankhya Tripathy, who had attended the victim, District Child Protection official Rajashree Das, District Home Guard DSP Kishore Chandra Das and Live Foundation NGO worker Sujata Nayak deposed before District & Sessions Court Judge – cum – Commissioner Bidyut Kumar Mishra and testified.

In the second phase, Crime Branch DSP Saubhagya Laxmi Patnaik and former Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Jeypore police station Tapan Narayan Rath had on May 20 deposed before the Judge in connection with the case.

Pottangi police station IIC Deb Kumar Gamang and Inspector of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) Mamata Panigrahi had appeared before the court in the first phase after the Commission of Inquiry set up to probe the case started its hearing on May 13.

However, family members of the victim and members of some NGOs are yet to depose before the Commission of Inquiry. Sources said that they could be given notice within this week as the last date of the hearing ends on June 25.

A class ninth student of Mushaguda village was allegedly gangraped by four persons in uniform while returning from Kunduli Haat on October 10, last year. Later she committed suicide on January 22 allegedly over failing to get justice.

The incident had created huge resentment among people of all walks of life across the state.
