Kunduli gang rape victim ends life, Union Tribal Minister demands CBI probe

Bhubaneswar: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram demanded a CBI investigation into the death of Kunduli gang rape victim who ended her life by hanging herself at her residence on Monday. The minor tribal girl was declared brought dead at Kunduli hospital.

Speaking to media persons Oram said, “The Naveen Government has failed to deliver justice to the Kunduli gang rape victim. It should hand over the probe to CBI immediately.”

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should resign on moral grounds,” he added.

Senior Congress leader and former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi also lambasted the State Government, particularly senior police officials investigating the case and demanded CBI probe into the death of the minor tribal girl.

Meanwhile, the BJP Mahila Morcha has called for a two-day stir over the death of the gang rape victim and is slated to take out protest rallies across the state from today.

Notably, the class IX class student of Sorisapadar village under Potangi police limits in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by four security personnel while she was returning from the Kunduli Haat on October 10, 2017 that created a huge public outcry in the state.

A day after the tragic incident, vehicular traffic was paralysed on the busy National Highway 26 connecting Koraput with Visakhapatnam as angry locals had staged a road blockade demanding stringent action against the perpetrators.

The Opposition Congress as well as the Maoists had observed bandh in different times protesting against the sensational gang rape case.

The State police had also designated the incident as a Red Flag Case.

Later, ADG Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) Mahendra Pratap and Koraput Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanwar Vishal Singh stated that there was no truth to the allegations made by the gang rape survivor.

However, on November 18 last year, the minor girl had allegedly attempted suicide following and was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family of the victim.
