Kunduli gang rape: Congress to stage Dharana outside Raj Bhavan on Nov 2

Prasad Harichandan, CongressBhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Prasad Harichandan on Monday announced that the opposition party would hold a dharana outside Raj Bhavan here in the state capital on November 2 protesting against the police action over the Kunduli gang rape case.

Addressing a press conference here at Congress Bhawan, Harichandan alleged that the police had been pressurising the gang rape survivor to change her statement.

The PCC President also levelled serious charges against the police saying the victim has been kept in captivity in the name of counseling at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput.

The congress leader also sought for stringent action against the accused in the gang rape case.

Earlier, the party had observed  bandh in Koraput district and held a protest march from the Musaguda village, the native village of gang rape survivor, to the DIG office in the district headquarter in a bid to put pressure the State government to arrest all the accused involved in the Kunduli gang rape case at the earliest.

A class IX class student of Sorisapadar village under Potangi police limits in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by four security personnel while she was returning from the Kunduli Haat (market) on October 10 that created a huge public outcry in the state.

Koraput MLA Krushna Sagaria was also present during the press conference.
