Bhubaneswar: Taking serious note of the Kunduli gang rape issue and the victim’s suicide, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has ordered a probe and has sought a report in this regard within 15 days.

The NHRC has asked its DG (Investigation Division) to constitute a team of investigators to conduct a spot inquiry into the matter and submit report.

The human rights body has also directed the Odisha government to cooperate with the probe team during its investigation process and provide all the necessary reports and documents related to the case.

The NHRC’s order came following a petition filed by one Radhakanta Tripathy.

Meanwhile, Odisha Crime Branch which is probing the incident, has sent the samples to Central Forensic Science Laboratory at Kolkata for re-examination after direction from DGP RP Sharma. Many had raised questions over State Forensic Science Laboratory’s report.

On October 10, last year a class ninth student was allegedly gang raped by four persons in uniform while returning from Kunduli Haat. Later she committed suicide on January 22.
