Koraput, Malkangiri awarded on World Population Day

ODISHA, World Population DayBhubaneswar: On the occasion of World Population Day on Tuesday, the Government of Odisha awarded best performing districts in the state in the areas of population control and family planning services during 2016-17.

Koraput and Malkangiri districts were awarded for providing quality family planning services while Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts were felicitated for best performance in PPIUCD insertions.

Nuapada, Malkangiri and Gajapati dstricts were awarded as the best three performing districts in the field of sterilisation operation for family planning while Rayagada, Koraput and Nuapada districts were felicitated for conducting most Vasectomy operations during 2016-17.

Dr. Rabindra Nath Mishra of Jajpur district and Dr. Sujnanendra Mishra of Bolangir were awarded for best performance in conducting minilap operation during WPF-2016. Among others, best performing health workers, ASHA workers, Surgeons, ANMs and NGOs from 14 districts were also awarded on the occasion.

The state government held a state-level ceremony here in the capital city to observe the World Population Day. State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena graced the occasion as chief guest.

National Health Mission Director, Odisha , Shalini Pandit, Director of Family Welfare Dr Binod Kumar Mishra and Jt. Director (Family Welfare) Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty were also present on the occasion.

The World Population Day is observed across the world on July 11 to increase people’s awareness on various population related issues such as the importance of family planning, maternal health, gender equality, poverty and human rights.
