KISS felicitates National Bravery Awardees Mamata Dalei, Pankaj Mahanta

Bhubaneswar: The city-based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) felicitated Mamata Dalai (6) and Pankaj Kumar Mahanta (15) on their arrival here on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on January 24 honoured the duo kids of Odisha with the National Bravery Award-2017 for their display of courage.

Mamata Dalai, a native of Bankuala village under Dangamal Gram Panchyat in Kendrapara district, was selected for the award after she fearlessly fought off a crocodile to save her sister Asanti’s life last year.

Similarly, Pankaj Mahanta of Keonjhar had displayed courage by diving into the Baitarani river and saved three women who were drowning in the river.

Mamata Dalai is now a student of KISS, founded by Dr. Achyuta Samanta. She was the youngest of the 18 awardees who received the National Bravery Award this year. She has been conferred the Bapu Gaidhani award.

President Ramnath Kovind had also felicitated the awardees at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a dinner for them. Besides, they took part in the Republic Day parade.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is slated to felicitate Mamata and Pankaj today at the state Secretariat.
