Jumbo tramples elderly man to death in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In yet another case of elephant attack in the state, an elderly man was killed after being trampled by a wild elephant in Bangurasingh village under Odapada block in the district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Baraju Sahu of the same village.

The victim, in his 70’s was busy working in his farmland when the mishap took place. While picking brinjals from his vegetable garden, he came across a wild jumbo which had sneaked into the village in search of food last night. The animal immediately pounced on the victim and killed him by trampling on the spot.

After the news spread in the village, angry locals staged a road blockade on NH-55 and demanded compensation to the kin of the victim.

Meanwhile, the local police and forest officials have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

In view of the growing elephant menace in the area, the forest department has issued warning asking villagers not to venture outside after evening.
