Jewellery shop owner foils loot attempt, receives critical injury in attack

Jajpur: A jewellery shop owner sustained critical injury and was rushed to hospital after some unidentified burglars shot at him following a failed loot attempt in Duburi area under Kalinganagar police limits in Jajpur district last night.

The inured has been identified as Hati Moharana, owner of Rana Jewellery.

The loot attempt took place at around 10.30 PM last night while Hati was about to close his shop located at Duburi Square. A group of bike-borne looters approached the shop and resorted to two round of blank firing. Later they tried to snatch away a jewellery bag which Hati was carrying. As the victim foiled the attempt of the looters by strong resistance, they hacked him with a bhojali (a sharp weapon) out of frustration and escaped from the spot.

The victim who sustained critical injury on his face and head in the attack and was immediately rushed to the Tata Medical Hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.

Kalinganagar Police has started investigation in the case and is trying to trace the looters who are suspected to have holed up in Sukinda area.
