Jayanarayan Mishra gets conditional bail in Banabira firing case

Cuttack: In a major relief to BJP leader and former Minister Jayanarayan Mishra, the Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to him in connection with the Banabira firing case during the Bijepur bypoll early this year, in which a BJD worker had died.

The High Court granted the bail against two sureties of Rs 50,000 each. It also directed him not to go abroad without the permission of lower court.

The court had earlier granted him interim bail on health grounds. Currently, the BJP leader is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi.

Mishra was arrested on April 15 in connection Banabira firing case in which Subrat Singh, brother of Minister of Sushant Singh was attacked ahead of the Bijepur bypoll on February 22.

Three persons including the Minister’s brother were injured in the firing incident whereas driver of Subrat Singh, Dileswar Sahu died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

On April 22, Mishra was admitted to VIMSAR in Burla after he complained of chest pain while being lodged in Sohela sub-jail. He was later shifted to SCB Hospital on April 24.

Mishra was eventually taken New Delhi based AIIMS on May 5 as his condition deteriorated.
