Puri: The Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Monday reopened the Jagamohan, the hall facing the Sanctum Sanctorum in Puri Jagannath Temple (Srimandir) after a gap of two years and two months.

Thousands of enthusiastic devotees made bee lines to have darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra from Jagmohan. They are entering through Jaya Vijaya Dwara and exiting through the Beharana Dwar.

The district administration has made elaborate security arrangement for the peaceful darshan of the deities.

The Jagamohan was closed to public since the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) started repair of the inner side of the temple including the sanctum sanctorum on January 28, 2016.

Orissa High Court had on April 11 this year asked the SJTA to reopen the Jagamohan after the ASI had informed the court on March 6, 2018 that it had completed the repair works of the Jagamohan. However, the SJTA had sought the HC’s permission for keeping Jagamohan closed till August 1. But a bench headed by Chief Justice Vineet Saran rejected SJTA’s plea and directed to open the Jagamohan today.
