Jaga shifted to general ward, Balia stable

Jaga BaliaNew Delhi/Bhubaneswar: As a sign of improvement and a major leap towards recovery, one of the conjoined twins Jaga was shifted to General Ward from ICU for the first time today, after second phase separation surgery.

Confirming the shifting of Jaga from the ICU, Delhi AIIMS authorities said taking into account the recovery status of the child, which matched the expected level, he has been currently kept at Bed No. 6010 of the General Ward.

While the parents of Jaga were allowed to meet him today, they were later lodged separately in the hospital in strict adherence to the medical restrictions. Jaga is being fed green coconut water and banana scrape and is responding well, said hospital authorities.

However, Balia still remains under ventilator despite his condition which is stated to be stable and improving with each passing day. He has been administered with tranquilizers following episodes of fits in last couple of days.

Notably, the Jaga-Balia case came to light after Kalinga TV aired a special programme on them in its ‘Kalinga Bandhu’ programme first on November 2016 Following the airing of the program, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took initiative and sanctioned Rs 1 Crore from the CM’s Relief Fund for the twins’ surgery. The first phase of surgery on the twins was carried out on August 28. The twins were separated after the second phase surgery on October 25, in which a team of 30 doctors across specialties took part.
