Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena on Saturday said that the twins Jaga and Balia will stay at AIIMS in New Delhi till their complete recovery. The State Government has requested the AIIMS authorities in this connection, he informed.

The Minister’s statement came after the parents of the twins urged to continue the treatment of Jaga and Balia at Delhi-AIIMS till they recover completely.

“Jaga is quite fine but Balia is still getting fed with the help of tubes. He is vomiting soon after taking food. In this condition, how can we admit the child at SCB Hospital in Cuttack,” said Jaga-Balia’s mother Pushpanjali Kanhara while speaking to Kalinga TV.

“After discharging from here (Delhi AIIMS), the children should be admitted to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar instead of SCB Hospital,” she urged.

Last month, a team of doctors from the state visited Delhi-AIIMS to assess if the children can be shifted to Bhubaneswar-AIIMS or Cuttack-based SCB Hospital for follow up treatment.

Jaga and Balia, hailing from Milipada village in Kandhamal district, were craniopagus conjoined twins, a very rare occurrence. They were successfully separated after an 18-hour-long surgery at AIIMS in the national capital in October last year.
