Balangir: Irate locals set a private passenger bus on fire after it hit a motorcycle leading to the death of a girl near Barhampur village under Patnagarh police limits of the district this morning.
The deceased minor girl has been identified as Ananya Sa of Salepali village.
The road accident took place when a speeding bus named Rajlaxmi hit the two-wheeler on which Ananya with her father Balaram Sa was returning home around 10.30 AM.
Ananya and Balaram were rescued by some locals and were admitted to the district headquarters hospital, where the girl succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
Some irate locals, on the other hand, asked the passenger to get down from the bus, and torched it as driver and conductor of the bus fled the spot following the road mishap.
On being informed, Patnagarh police and firefighters reached the spot and doused the inferno.
Cops also initiated an investigation into the matter.
