India thrash Pakistan 4-0 in Champions Trophy opener

Breda: India edged out arch-rivals Pakistan 4-0 in the first match of the FIH Champions Trophy at Breda in Netherlands on Saturday.

Ramandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhyay scored one each goal for India.

While Ramandeep put India 1-0 ahead in the 25th minute, the other three goals were scored in the final quarter.

Dilpreet doubled India’s lead in the 54th minute.

In a bid to strengthen their attacking line, Pakistan decided to take off their goalkeeper in the 55th minute. But it backfired as Mandeep netted the ball into an empty net in the 57th minute and took India’s lead to 3-0. Later, in the final minute, Lalit dived in to tap the ball into the net and made it 4-0.

India are slated to play reigning Olympic champions Argentina in their next round-robin league match on Sunday.
